When you are not volunteering at our rescue center, we encourage you to explore the beauty and culture that surrounds us. From observing wildlife in their natural habitat, to incredible nature hikes or local cultural experiences, Costa Rica has it all.
Surf Lessons & Rentals
Beginner, intermediate or advanced- Playa Grande is famous for its incredible surf. The knowledgeable instructors ensure all participants are safe and have fun.
Hot Spring Tours
After a moderate hike, you can relax with a number of hot springs of varying temperatures. Surrounded by lush jungle, you can melt away the afternoon.
Estuary Kayak Tours
Paddle through the mangrove forests and down the winding estuary. You’ll stop to admire crocodiles, monkeys, and other wildlife along the way.
Tamarindo Day Trip
Tamarindo is a touristic town filled with a beautiful beach, shops, bars and restaurants. Only a beach walk and quick boat trip, or a 30 minute scenic drive away.
Chocolate Tasting & Tour
Taste over 14 chocolate flavours, an assortment of teas and hot chocolates from a local and artisanal chocolate producer. Cacao beans were considered sacred by Costa Rica’s indigenous groups. Learn about the history and production of this delicious treat.
Waterfall Hike
Costa Rica is home to some pretty incredible waterfalls. Take a moderate hike through the jungles, spot some exotic wildlife and swim in the beautiful waterfalls.

Turtle Nesting
Leatherback sea turtles are an endangered species, therefore the entire Playa Grande coastline is devoted to the protection of this rare nesting ground. Playa Grande is actually the second largest nesting site for leatherback sea turtles in the world!
